Danny Mitsios
Artistic and Executive Director
Dionysios Mitsios (Danny) was raised in Jacksonville, FL by Greek parents. He attended Jacksonville University (JU), graduating Magnum cum Laude with departmental honors in Dance and Magnum cum Laude in Computer Information Systems. While at JU, he garnered several awards, including the Dance Management, Most Improved Dancer, and Dance Contribution Awards. Additionally, he studied at Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory, collaborating with Moses Pendelton of Momix to choreograph Lunar Sea, now touring with Momix. He was honored with the Service Award and attended Nutmeg on scholarship.
After graduation, Danny embarked on a professional dance career, performing with esteemed companies such as Florida Ballet, Charleston Ballet Theatre, HT Chen & Dancers, and others. He has also guest-performed with numerous organizations worldwide, showcasing his talent on international stages.
In addition to his dance career, Danny is co-owner of Long Body Yoga, TheGreatestWebAndGraphics.com, and 35° 33° Dance Company in Cyprus. He serves as an active member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves and became a commissioned officer in 2022.
In 2018, Danny assumed the role of Artistic-Executive Director of Montgomery Ballet, ushering in a new era of growth and innovation. Under his leadership, Montgomery Ballet has expanded its reach, touring central Alabama and performing in Montgomery, Pike Road, Greenville, and Selma. New performances like History of Dance and the annual Mardi Gras event have been added, increasing annual performances, attendance, and program offerings.
Danny’s commitment to community engagement is evident through collaborations with groups like Gravity, Montgomery Zoo, and Wetumpka Titans. He introduced the slogan “Dance Lives Here,” emphasizing Montgomery Ballet’s unique commitment to central Alabama’s cultural landscape. By ensuring all Montgomery Ballet artists reside in or near Montgomery, AL, Danny underscores the organization’s integral role in the region’s cultural fabric. Through his visionary leadership, Danny continues to elevate Montgomery Ballet’s presence and impact, forging meaningful connections and fostering artistic excellence within the community.
