Shaylyn Vick
Company Dancer
She started her journey in the world of dance at the age of 6, and from the very beginning, she found herself enchanted by the art form. Her ability to grasp choreography swiftly became evident, and soon she was crafting her own pieces. After spending 7 years honing her skills in her childhood dance studio, her instructors recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue more intensive training at Briarwood Ballet.
Immersing herself in the intensive division at Briarwood, she danced with Ballet Exaltation, absorbing knowledge and refining her technique. Following her time at Briarwood, she ventured into the realm of musical theatre and acting by joining her community theatre. Here, she discovered a newfound passion for performing on stage, seamlessly integrating her dance prowess into musical productions such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Big Fish,” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” among others.
It was during her involvement in “Beauty and the Beast” that she caught the attention of the lead dance instructors at SDPAC. Impressed by her talent and dedication, they offered her a teaching position in classical ballet shortly thereafter. Since then, she has seized numerous opportunities to choreograph for various groups, expanding her creative horizons beyond solo endeavors.
Annually choreographing for SDPAC’s Spring Recital has become a cherished tradition for her, allowing her to showcase her artistic vision to a wider audience. Additionally, she has had the privilege of choreographing two musicals: “The Aristocats Kids,” a delightful children’s production, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” where she collaborated with experienced and seasoned dancers.
Now, she eagerly anticipates her next chapter as she prepares to join Montgomery Ballet for her first professional engagement, eager to contribute her unique blend of talent and creativity to the esteemed company.
