Press Release: Montgomery Ballet Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary Performance of “The Nutcracker”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONTGOMERY, Alabama (November 11, 2015) – Montgomery Ballet is proud to announce its 40th Anniversary performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker December 11th-13th at Troy University’s Davis Theatre in Downtown Montgomery, Alabama. Founded in 1958, Montgomery Ballet is the only professional dance company in the city of Montgomery and is one of two in the state of Alabama.

This year’s Nutcracker performance will serve as a homecoming celebration of sorts for Montgomery Ballet. Montgomery Ballet alumni (2008-12) Joey and Laura Villalobos returned as Co-Artistic and School Directors in the summer of 2015 and are choreographing this year’s production. Abigail Morwood (née Maruna), soloist with Cincinnati Ballet and alumna of Montgomery Ballet School will join Montgomery Ballet for two of its four public performances.

“We are so honored to have Abigail Morwood join Montgomery Ballet on stage for our 40th anniversary performance. To have a student go out into the world and succeed and then return home and share her gift with her hometown is really something quite special,” says Montgomery Ballet Member of the Board Dottye Hannan.
