MONTGOMERY, AL, Sept. 19, 2020– Montgomery’s own professional ballet company has moved to their original home in Cloverdale and will be celebrating with an open house October 5-10th. There will be no large group gatherings or traditional open house party due to COVID safety precautions. Instead members of the community, young and old, are invited to register online to participate in any of the classes offered by the company’s school for FREE.
The Montgomery Ballet and its school are fully operational again at 1062 Woodley Road in Cloverdale, alongside their on-going virtual dance class offerings. To share the re-opening of their old location the school is hosting a week long open house for the public. Prospective students may pick from any of their ballet and/or jazz classes to try for free, either in-person or virtually. There is no obligation to register for regular class, so all interested individuals are welcome to fill out the class form on montgomeryballet.org and attend!
Parents and students will be able to see the new studio space, try a new experience, and acquaint themselves with the building and current COVID protocols or meet their teacher and dance from the comfort of their own home! During class, dancers will develop new constructive ways to express themselves and move. During quarantine many have found it difficult to stay active and find energy outlets, so students have been thrilled to return to their dance classes. This structured exploration of a fine art form allows students to strengthen kinetic familiarity in their bodies, while releasing positive endorphins. We think freedom in an open space, moving to music, a break from your routine, and finding a reason to smile during the day are reasons enough to give dance class a try!
Montgomery Ballet Artistic-Executive Director said “I’m so excited to be opening our house to the community. We are the city’s ballet company and the performance company for outlining communities. Moving to our historical roots really helps to bring the ballet full circle. We started here in Cloverdale and we are returning to create something truly special for the community. Remember we are not just another non-profit. We belong to the city of Montgomery. Every dancer, teacher and staff live here in Alabama, which is why the slogan Dance Lives Here is part of our logo. This open house is more than just to advertise our classes. This open house is to show how we are a part of the culture of the community. Every dancer that moves here brings their unique talents and adds to the community. We have dancers from all over the country. We are in essence opening our home to let you know we are here and we are more than a ballet company; we are your neighbors.”
To ensure the continued health and safety of all participating in this open house (and during regular activities), new precautions have been put in place.
COVID health and safety measures:
- Registration is required to ensure classes do not exceed a safe size
- This means in-person spots are limited, so register fast
- Masks are required at all times in the building
- Students are to be dropped off at back door and picked up at front
- This keeps bodies flowing in one direction through the building and prevents contact between students from different classes
- There is no waiting area for parents/guardians inside
- Everyone entering the building has their temperature checked
- The studio is sanitized between each class
- Social distancing is practiced during class
- Virtual classes will continue as an alternative
Even in this unusual year, there is no better time to try something new and find out more about the performing arts right here in Montgomery.
